Cambridge-Chares R. Ast, Jr., 96, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn January 31, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles and Adele (Wholmann) Ast.  He was educated at the Brooklyn Technical School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. serving during World War II.

Charlie worked for various airlines in the United States and last worked at John F, Kennedy Airport for American Airlines and retired from Seaboard World Airlines where he was a Methods Engineer. 

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge and enjoyed computers which kept his brain going.  He also loved singing.

Charlie's son, Robert Ast of Cambridge passed away suddenly on Saturday September 9, 2017; along with his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Thorton Eugene “Ted” Ast and Patricia Agramonte.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Garger Ast; a daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Lippitt of Victory Mills; his sister, Joan Ast of Greenlawn, NY; grandchildren, Robert C. Murnane, Eric C. (Renee) Laki and Kimberly Thomas; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, September 11, 2017 from 4-6 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge with the Very Rev. Thomas Zelker officiating.

Interment with military honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
