Rupert, VT-Agnes McKeighan Braymer, 97, of Rupert, passed away Friday afternoon, October 6, 2017 at the Indian River Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Granville.
Agnes was born March 8, 1920 in Rupert and was the daughter of the late Frank & Ruth (Nelson) McKeighan. She was educated in a one room school house in Rupert and worked at J.H. Guyld in Rupert for 25 years. Agnes was also a phone operator at the home of Luella Carver in Rupert and she then worked at the Dorset Inn as a cook for 13 years until she retired.
Agnes lived in Rupert all of her life and was a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church since 1931. She cared for many people in the Rupert community in their homes. Agnes was a member of the Rupert Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary for many years and participated in many functions. She was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America in Wells, VT and the Pomona Grange, both State and National levels.
Agnes enjoyed playing bingo and traveling to Mohegan Sun Casino on the senior citizen trips.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ray Braymer who passed away in 1988; her daughter, who was 4 years old, Linda Ray McKeighan; siblings, Nelson McKeighan, Sterling McKeighan, G. Holden McKeighan, Flora Franklin and Doris Ray.
Agnes is survived by a sister, Martha McNeil of Waterford, and a brother, Eli McKeighan of Rupert and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. A calling hour will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Rupert Cemetery.
