Henry Frank Makrin

Cambridge-Henry Frank Makrin,  January 26, 1936 - May 24, 2017.   Frank, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Long Island City, NY the son of the late Henry and Maria Makrin of Astoria, Queens NY.  

Frank served in the 4th U.S. Army, Signal Corps, as a Specialist E4 - Field Radio Repair in the 1950's.   He was a member of the IATSE - Local 52 (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) for over 50 years and NABET Local 11 (National Association of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians).  "Uncle Henry", as he was known at work, served in various capacities at the National Broadcasting Company in New York City for over 30 years.   He worked on film camera repairs, audio recording and broadcast radio audio engineering.   In the 1980's he provided audio engineering of live broadcasts on the NBC radio network.  In 1981 he supported the audio feed of Simon and Garfunkel - Central Park Reunion Concert that was broadcast across the world via satellite. He traveled across the country to broadcast several national political conventions, two seasons of National Football League events, including Superbowl XX and XXI.    He rounded out his career as a video editor for several TV shows in the late 1990's; "NOW with Jane Pauley" and "A Closer Look".  Frank's work on the "DATELINE NBC" show in 1994 provided an opportunity to win an Emmy Award for Post Production Audio.

He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family.  There were many wonderful summer adventures camping across the United States and sailing on the Great South Bay on Long Island.

Frank is survived by his wife, Lucille (Dustin) Makrin of Cambridge, NY.  Two children: Keith Makrin and wife Lynn, and Kristin Makrin.  Two grandchildren, Katherine and Ryan Makrin.

Frank passed away without pain at Glens Falls Hospital - Comfort Care.  His advance directive wishes were followed by the hospital staff with the assistance of his daughter, Kristin, a Registered Nurse at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. 

Calling hours will be at McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4-7 PM.

A burial with military honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 9 AM.
