Cambridge - Yvonne H. (Graney) Santerre, 86, a beloved resident of Cambridge, NY, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 2, 1937, in Hoosick Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph and Valeda Graney.
Yvonne's early education took place at St. Mary’s School in Hoosick Falls, which she cherished immensely. She then furthered her studies at Mildred Elley in Albany, NY. On June 22, 1957, she married Maurice L. Santerre, and together they created a life filled with love and dedication. For over 30 years, Yvonne and Maurice operated Santerre’s Wine and Liquor store in Cambridge, NY, a testament to their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. Yvonne retired from the business in 2004.
A devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge, Yvonne's faith and community were central to her life. She had a deep love for the outdoors; enjoying hiking, camping, and canoeing. Also, Yvonne was fond of bowling in her younger years but has always been an incredible baker and cook. Her infamous carrot cake and potato salad that were brought to special occasions quickly became a frequent request amongst her family, friends and beyond. Yvonne's altruistic nature and consistent acts of kindness was shown through her cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions. These will certainly be missed by so many. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them.
Yvonne is survived by her beloved husband, Maurice L. Santerre; her children, Joe (Colleen) Santerre of Sterling, MA; Richard (Valerie) Santerre of Queensbury, NY; Michelle (Frank) Miller of Manchester, NH; and Valeda McLenithan of Shushan, NY.
She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, P.J. (Julie) Graney of Ticonderoga, NY.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Therese Santerre, a son-in-law, Glenn “Buzzy” McLenithan, and another son-in-law, John Seale.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Church located at 17 S. Park Street, Cambridge, NY with Rev. Peter Tkocz officiating.
A visitation hour will be held from 12-1 pm prior to the funeral mass at the church. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cambridge, NY.
