Cambridge, NY - Wallace S. Cordle, Jr., age 70, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 26, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia, Wally was the son of the late Wallace S. and Phyllis A. (Hash) Cordle. From a young age, Wally was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and quiet determination—qualities that would shape the path of his life and career.
Wally earned his Master Plumber’s Certificate from John Tyler Community College in Virginia. He began his career with purpose and passion, eventually spending over a year in Ghana, Africa, working as a foreman on a project led by his uncle. Together, they helped build an American factory designed to benefit the local community—a project Wally spoke of with deep pride. Later, he traveled to Cambridge, New York, where he and his uncle helped renovate homes before Wally went on to establish his own business, Wallace S. Cordle Plumbing & Heating. Known for his skill and integrity, Wally built not just homes and businesses, but lasting relationships with his customers.
A man who cherished the natural world, Wally found peace and joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hiker who spent countless miles on the Appalachian Trail, a camper and fisherman who loved quiet mornings near the water, and a devoted friend who enjoyed a round of golf with his close circle. His deep appreciation for the ocean was especially evident in the way he found solace in watching the sunrise and the fishing boats on the horizon.
Wally was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Midlothian, Virginia, where he will be laid to rest.
He is survived by his beloved partner, Joanne Dyke, and her sons and grandchildren—Jason (Mandy), Justin (Jennifer), Tyler, Josie, Matthew, Carter, and Isabelle—who brought much joy and companionship to his later years. Wally is also survived by his sister, Robbie L. Cordle (Gary Gill) of Lambertville, Michigan, along with many loving aunts and cousins.
Honoring Wally’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Lounge at the Captain Maxson American Legion, 2106 State Route 22, Cambridge, NY.
