Obituary

Hebron, NY-Vernon S. "Steve"?" Sheldon, 75, passed away Friday night, December 22, 2006 in his home where he was born December 28, 1930 and resided his entire life. Steve was the son of Norman D. and Clara B. Shaw Sheldon. Steve was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy. He was an active member of FFA (Future Farmers of America) where he was awarded an American Agriculturist Foundation Certificate of Achievement. He was also an active member of the Hebron Grange. Steve'?'s life revolved around the operation of his family dairy farm and maple syrup house on Sheldon Road in Hebron, NY and spending time with his family whom he loved very much. Steve'?'s dairy farm was awarded many Product Quality and Production Awards such as Vermont Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Honor Roll 1992 and Eastern Herd Production Achievement Award for July 1992. Steve and his ancestors were awarded the Hebron Landowner's Recognition Certificate for continuous family ownership of the land since 1845. Steve was pre-deceased by his first wife, Marion Lundy Sheldon whom he loved very much and cared for many years. Marion passed away February 12, 1993. Steve was a lifetime and loyal member of the East Hebron United Presbyterian Church. Steve is survived by his wife, Paulette Desjardins Sheldon whom he had many treasured, loving and devoted years together; his step-children, Teresa Baldwin and her husband Ron of Fort Edward, Carey Lynn Carpenter and her husband Scott of Halfmoon and Kenneth Drinkwine and his wife Amanda of Hebron; two sisters, Alberta Labas of West Pawlet, VT and Theodosia McEachron of Arkport, NY; a sister in law, Grace Sheldon of Salem. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brendan Drinkwine, Danielle Baldwin, Kevin Carpenter, Nathaniel Baldwin, Joseph Carpenter and Ethan Drinkwine who brought him great joy, Papa will be greatly missed. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was also pre-deceased by two brothers, Albert A. Sheldon and Milton G. Sheldon and two sisters, Eleanor Williams and Bertha Brown. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the East Hebron United Presbyterian Church, Route 22, Hebron with Rev. William Hoffmann officiating. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. Following the services, the family wishes to invite everyone to join them at the East Hebron United Presbyterian Church hall for fellowship and to continue to share memories of Steve. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call on Friday, January 5, 2007 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Steve may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY 12865 or East Hebron United Presbyterian Church, C/O 3153 County Route 30, Salem, NY 12865.
