Salem, NY - Tina Masaba, 47, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Debrecen, Hungary on November 29, 1977, Tina was the daughter of Drs. Silver and Edit Masaba of Salem. She graduated from Stuyvesant High School in New York City and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Pomona College in Pomona, California.
Tina was a gifted artist with a deep appreciation for creativity and expression. She lived for many years in Los Angeles, where she worked alongside other artists and served at the Los Angeles Museum of Arts for ten years. Her work reflected her love for painting and her fondness for the color white, which she often said represented clarity and peace. Tina had always loved pearls, and after returning to Salem, she continued to nurture her artistic spirit—collaborating with local artists and writing a book she chose not to publish, a project that reflected her introspective and thoughtful nature.
Tina’s interests extended beyond art. She worked at the Target Distribution Center in Wilton, NY, and also at the Cambridge Co-Op, where she enjoyed connecting with others in her community. She had a profound curiosity about healing and frequently shared her insights about Indian Soul Healing. A passionate traveler, Tina explored Florida, Hawaii, Europe, Egypt, Turkey, and Uganda, always eager to learn from different cultures and experiences. She was devoted to living a healthy, balanced life, favoring organic foods and taking great joy in cooking and baking for those she loved. She was also a member of the local Reiki group.
Tina will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her artistic vision, and her genuine compassion for others. She approached life with openness, creativity, and a quiet strength that inspired those around her.
She is survived by her parents, Drs. Silver and Edit Masaba of Salem; her brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Oliver and Erin Masaba of Rochester, NY; half-brothers, Erisa Masaba of Budapest, Hungary, and Kenneth Masaba of Uganda; niece and nephew, Evelyn and Bennett Masaba of Rochester, NY; her godmother, Dr. Eva Kalmar, and family of Debrecen, Hungary; her aunts, Katalin Bortnyak of Debrecen, Hungary and Dr. Valeria Albert of Nyiregyhaza, Hungary.
A private viewing will be held for the family at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home in Salem, NY.
