Schenectady-Thomas J. McGovern, 77, of Schenectady, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022 at his residence.
Born March 3, 1945 in New York City, he was the son of the late Christopher and Ann (O’Keefe) McGovern.
Tom graduated from Fordham Preparatory School and earned his undergraduate degree from Fordham University. He continued his education at Columbia University where he received his master’s degree. Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and when he was discharged, he moved to Ireland where he worked on the family farm but returned to New York State and attended Russell Sage College where he received his degree and became a paralegal.
Tom worked for the Office of the Attorney General in Manhattan and eventually transferred to Albany working in the same capacity retiring in 2007.
Tom loved reading and watching classical movies.
Tom is survived by his sister, Ann M. McGovern of Salem and several close friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Holy Cross Church, 249 North Main St., Salem with Rev. Peter Tkocz officiating.
Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
