Hebron, NY - Scott Matthew Shevy, 76, of Hebron, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Albany Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1950 in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph and Joan (Murdock) Shevy. Scott graduated from Colonie High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in oboe from SUNY Potsdam.
Scott dedicated over 30 years to teaching music at South Glens Falls Central School District, retiring in 2005. Music was not only his profession, but also his lifelong passion. An accomplished musician, Scott played the oboe and English horn and was a member of both the Troy Musicians Union and the Saratoga Musicians Union. Throughout the years, he performed with the Glens Falls Symphony, the Utica Symphony Orchestra, the Glens Falls Operetta Club and also played at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. His musical talents provided him the opportunity to perform with Frank Sinatra and The Moody Blues, as well as with Garrison Keeler.
In addition to music, Scott enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of a bowling league in South Glens Falls. He also enjoyed golfing and was active in his community as a former member of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Hebron Preservation Society.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sheri Greenberg Shevy; his children, Laura Elyse Shevy, MD of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jaron Matthew Shevy (Kathryn) of Queensbury; his brother, Michael Shevy (Bonnie Piazza) of Schenectady, NY; along with one niece and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, Scott was predeceased by his sister, Christine Shevy.
