Cambridge - Samuel J. Perkins was a radiant soul whose life overflowed with kindness, wisdom, and love. Whether you knew him for a moment or a lifetime, his compassion left an indelible mark. Sam devoted himself to uplifting others—offering wisdom, laughter, and light wherever he went.
Sam graduated from Salem Washington Academy and was also a Johnson & Wales graduate in Hospitality Management, Samuel built a remarkable career spanning over two decades. As founder of The Spectra Group, and later managing member of Hospitality XL (HXL), he became a respected leader in the hospitality industry, helping hotels and restaurants succeed through strategic consulting and mentorship. His leadership was defined by empathy, creativity, and a commitment to empowering people.
More than his professional accomplishments, Samuel was beloved for his ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. His joyful presence—and hilarious alter ego “Pretty Ricky”—brightened every room. His deep love for his family, friends, and community shaped countless lives. He is survived by his mother, Ora Perkins (Gary); sisters Keturah Perkins (Trembley) and Nanzetta Webster (Alvin); brothers-in-law Marcus Graham and John Trembley; and nieces and nephews Altwon, Jamal (Tionna), Shamika (Ron), Immanuel, Gideon, Selah, and Uzziya. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin Perkins, and sister, Uriella Graham.
Samuel’s heart held space for many, including soul sister Beth Woodard; Evelyn Asante and her sons Caleb, Kenneth, and Alex (his Godchildren); and close friends, Rose Walker (Arianna), Simeon Novels (Godson Isaiah), Daniel Bennett, James Dinnall, Josephine Inez (Goddaughter Everly), Damaris Hernandez (Alex and Alina), Robert Mellwig and the Bachur Fellowship Family. He truly carried each of you in his heart.
