Ryan Michael Lourie

West Rupert, VT- Ryan Michael Lourie, 44, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023 after a truly courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 22, 1979 in Rutland, Vermont.

Ryan is survived by his sons who were his greatest joy, Trent and Drew Lourie; his parents, Michael (Tracy) Lourie and Debra Leach (Kurt) Baccei; grandmothers, Anne Lourie and Madeline ‘Nan’ Leach; brother, Brett (Leanne) Lourie; niece and nephew, Lily and Jack as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, James ‘Wilson’ Lourie and Howard Leach.

Ryan was a 1997 graduate of Salem Washington Academy. Upon graduation, Ryan initially worked towards completing an electrician apprenticeship before pivoting to join the family farm, Rupert Valley Holsteins. Ryan grew up in the barn and fields of Winooka Farm Ayrshires and lived and breathed dairy farming. He embodied being ‘Farm Strong’ and taught his boys about all-things outdoors. Ryan lived for days spent with Trent and Drew hunting, fishing, trapping, snowboarding, harvesting, catching a concert from a favorite musician, cruising on the boat, or breaking trails with a snowmobile or side-by-side. He made it to every game and sporting event he could for the boys and made family time a priority. Ryan took numerous trips in recent years to explore the great outdoors including the backwoods and landscapes of Wyoming, Colorado, Missouri, New Hampshire, Montana, and Maine. While he loved his trips and time away, his favorite place to be was in the hills and valleys of West Rupert. Ryan was a fun-loving person; he was always up for an adventure, and never dwelled on what was to come. He would want his friends and family to remember the good times, to live life to the fullest and to make time to get outdoors and enjoy where you live.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 3-6 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Rupert Congregational Church, 2803 VT-153, West Rupert, VT. Burial will follow in the Rupert Street Cemetery.
