Cambridge, NY – Robert J. Barker, Sr., 87, of Cambridge, passed away Monday night, May 13, 2024 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT.
He was born October 29, 1936 in Norwalk, CT the son of the late Frederick and Florence (Carmen) Barker.
Robert worked at Scott’s Corner Market in Pound Ridge, NY in many capacities working his way up to Vice President retiring after 35 years of service. He then worked for the Town Highway Department in Pound Ridge until 1990 and moved to Cambridge where he started a business building log cabins which he owned and operated for 20 years. Robert also worked from his garage at his home repairing vehicles and doing autobody work.
He raced his stock car #109 at the Danbury Race Track in Danbury, CT for many years; he served the public by being a member of the Pound Ridge Vol. Fire Dept. for many years and had served in the National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Barker.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. (Lillian) Barker, II and David S. (Liv) Barker, all of Bedford, NY; a sister, Nancy (Nick) Buchko of Homosassa, FL; a sister-in-law, Loretta Barker of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Farrah, Dina, Cody and Steven; four great grandchildren, Raelyn, Ella, Hunter and Bodey and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 12-2 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A service will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Carol Finke officiating.
