Cambridge - Phyllis K. Tate, 97, a cherished resident of Cambridge, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 25, 2024. Born on November 10, 1926, in Bennington, VT, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Nina (Swan) Kittel.
Phyllis dedicated 28 years to the Cambridge Central School cafeteria, where her love for children shone brightly until her retirement in 1993. An avid traveler and reader, she found joy in both exploring new places and getting lost in the pages of her favorite books, often turning to audiobooks for companionship. She took great pleasure in organizing family photos into albums, preserving precious memories for future generations.
A proud graduate of Bennington High School in 1945, Phyllis was a member of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church and the Hoosic Valley Senior Group, where she enjoyed many adventures with friends. Family gatherings and reunions were highlights of her life, allowing her to revel in the company of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Diane Tate Moses of Cambridge and Alan L. Tate of Buskirk; her grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Moses of Eagle Bridge and Jodie (Ron) Sinsabaugh of Cambridge; and her great-grandchildren, Colby and Ashley Moses, and Kylie and Ayla Sinsabaugh. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Kittel of Randolph, VT.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence “Bud” Tate, in 2018, as well as her son-in-law, Gary Moses in 2011, and sisters Hazel Apfelbeck and Polly Dunn.
A calling hour will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 1 to 2 PM at the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, 81 East Main St., Cambridge, followed by a service to celebrate her life. Burial will take place in Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
A reception will be in the Emma Holden Hall at the church following the services.
