Paul LaFountain Obituary

Bennington - Paul L. LaFountain, 67, a lifelong resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. Paul was born on June 22, 1957, in Bennington, VT, the beloved son of Marjorie and John LaFountain.

Paul’s life was marked by dedication to his family and community. He was united in marriage to Susan Gates LaFountain, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. Together, they raised four children: Timothy (Allison) LaFountain, Shawn LaFountain, Nicole (Earl) LaFountain Bump, and Martha (Caleb) LaFountain, all of Bennington. His role as a father and grandfather brought him immeasurable joy, and he treasured the time spent with his ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

For 30 years, Paul worked as a welder at L&G Fabricators in Bennington for 44 years, where he was known for his skilled craftsmanship and commitment to his trade. His dedication extended beyond his profession; Paul was also an honorary member of the Bennington Rural Fire Department, reflecting his commitment to the safety and well-being of his community.

Paul’s interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, finding peace in the great outdoors. A keen enthusiast of bowling, western movies, and tractor/truck pulls, Paul embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm. His passion for farming was another testament to his love for the land and its traditions.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; their children; and his siblings Jean LaFountain of Bennington, Marie West of Bennington, and Shirley (Gaston) Boisvert of Cambridge, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John LaFountain, and his sisters Jeannette Rousseau, Dorothy Kelly, Judy Briggs, and Joanne LaFountain, as well as his brother David LaFountain, granddaughter Nellie LaFountain, and brothers-in-law Carl Hamilton and Billy West.
