Cambridge - Nancy Susan "Sue" (Whittle) Mitchell, affectionately known as Sue, passed away on August 9, 2024, at the age of 92 in Cambridge, NY. Born on February 9, 1932, in "The Bronx", New York, Sue spent her life enriching the lives of those around her through her kindness and her passions for reading, gardening, cooking, and many years on the Island of Vinalhaven, Maine.
Nancy graduated from Stillwater High School and studied at The University of Albany (old Campus) and graduated in 1954 with a teaching degree in English and Social Studies. Nancy also worked in the Educational Office at the (new campus) of the University of Albany. She married Robert Royal Mitchell on June 20th, 1953. Mitch, her beloved husband passed August 25th, 2003. Son, Douglas R. Mitchell passing in 2012. Sue passed peacefully with her loving daughter Heather by her side at their home in The Village of Cambridge.
Sue was a dedicated member of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in various community and church activities, reflecting her commitment to service, worship, faith, and friendships. Sue was very involved with the Cambridge Public Library as a former president and Board Member of Friends of the Library. Loving the commitment of all involved and the importance of books and reading.
A service will be Friday, August 16th, 2024 at 2pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. All are welcomed to attend.
In lieu of flowers, be kind to one another, pay it forward, buy or plant flowers, and call them Sue's flowers. My Mother's life will be celebrated in a manner that honors her gentle spirit and lifelong generosity. Her presence will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.
