Salem – Mary Louise Barton, 74, of Salem, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at her residence.
She was born in Granville on October 5, 1949 the daughter of the late Stanley Francis Getty, II and Phyllis Barber Getty.
Mary graduated from Salem Washington Academy and worked for Getty Garbage Removal and Custom Snow Plowing in Salem for many years. She was also a crossing guard for Salem Central School in Salem for five years, worked at C.B. Sports in Salem, Pizza World in Salem and Equinox Terrace in Manchester, VT.
Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed making jewelry, watching football, especially the San Francisco 49ers which was her favorite team. She watched NASCAR racing and her favorite drivers are Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kirsten.
Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, George E. Barton who she married April 9, 1972; her children, Amy (Sam) Ruggles of Salem, Christine (Glenn) Morey of West Rupert, VT and David Barton of Texas; siblings, Bill (Sally) Getty of Florida and Michelle (Phil) Wilson of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Sammy, Zachary, Dani, Makayla and Grace; great grandchildren, Sadie, Bentley, Timmy, Oaklyn, Addelyne, Everleigh, Austin and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held in the spring.
