Mark Sherman Obituary

Greenwich - Mark passed away quietly in his home on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.  Mark was the 2nd of five children born to his predeceased parents, George W. Sherman and Dolores J. Sherman (nee Ismond) on June 26th, 1959.  He was born in Buffalo, NY and spent the early years of his childhood running through fields and streams with his many cousins and four siblings.

When the family moved to NH, Mark became focused on all sports.  Anything that provided adrenaline and time outside. He loved football and played for a team in Hooksett, NH with friends that loaded up in his Dad’s van for the trip to practice.  He also spent endless hours playing homerun derby with his siblings and ran plays with his brother John until dark.  He was a great baseball player.

The family moved back to NY and settled in the Cambridge school district.  Mark still loved anything that could get him to his next adventure!  It could have been a bike, a motorcycle or hitchhiking. He just needed to be where he needed to be. This is where Mark began friendships that have lasted him a lifetime and Cambridge/Greenwich would be his forever home.  Sans a stint in the Army and some time with his mother, this community was his home.  This is where he nurtured his friendships, started hunting and going to the “cabin”, became a fierce pitch player, ran with the dogs and cherished his time at the American Legion.  The Legion, Mark watched his beloved Bills and Yankees.

Playing grumpy Walter somedays, it was important to recognize Mark’s heart was as big as Lake George. He always left you with a big “I love you”.  He leaves behind his 4 siblings, Kimberley Sherman DeMong, Jill Sherman (Dana Kilmer), John Sherman (Pamela) and Tracy Fiacco (David).  He also leaves his nieces and nephew, Andrew DeMong, Kathleen DeMong, Julianna Gorges (Hayley) (nee Sherman) and Sophie Sherman.  He was always so very proud of all of them.  Lastly, great niece & nephews, Lily Fancher, Zachary and Ryan DeMong.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be on Wednesday August 14th from 4:30 pm to 7 pm at the American Legion in Greenwich NY.  Please wear your best BILLS gear or your favorite hat.
