Cambridge-Margaret (Peggy) Powers Bloom went to Heaven on Friday, March 12, 2021 after a brief illness.
Peggy was born September 21, 1926 in a house on North Park St. to Joseph J. Powers Sr. and Mary Costello Powers. Her mother died when she was very young, so she and her three brothers were raised by their father and grandmother. As a teenager she went to live with and work for her oldest brother Tom and his wife Marguerite in the restaurant they owned, while attending Cambridge Union School from which she graduated in 1944. Peggy would later go on to work for Rose Dwyer at the local diner. While working at the diner for Rose she had the pleasure of waiting on many Cambridge residents but there was only one she knew she would marry.
On July 30, 1950 she married the love of her life, John Bloom. Together they enjoyed bowling and drinks at the Hotel Cambridge, summers at Hedges Lake, and many parties with friends. In 1952 they moved to a house on Spring Street where Peggy relished in her role as a homemaker, while working at Bell’s store.
Her family will miss and cherish the memories of their Queen of Spring Street. She is survived by her son Robert (Kathy) Bloom of Greenville, SC, her daughter Betsy (Dale) Dearstyne of Eagle Bridge, NY, her four granddaughters Jessica Kennedy of Cambridge, NY, Amanda Dearstyne (Kostas Sikamiotis) of Mechanicville, NY, Virginia (Chetan) Mehta of New York, NY, Kelly (Patrick) Bloom-Peebles of Washington DC and her most loved great grandchildren Madison Cannon, Alexis Kyer, Devan and Kian Mehta plus many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her soulmate John Bloom, her brothers Tom, Joe, and Bob Powers and their wives, her very best friend Peggy Felmly, and many more friends and relatives.
There will be calling hours Saturday March 20th, 2021 from 1pm-4pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. Burial will be July 23rd, 2021 in Saratoga National Cemetery.
