Cambridge (Town of Jackson)-Leta Bentley Tully, of Cambridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 five days short of her 96th birthday at the Pine Valley Home in Hoosick Falls.
Leta was born February 24, 1923 at the family farmhouse in Lyndonville, NY where she was raised. She was the daughter of the late Stanley and Flora (Miller) Bentley. Leta looked forward to her yearly visits to her childhood home in which the farm is still being operated by family.
Leta graduated from Syracuse University where she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching. She earned her master’s degree from Oneonta State. Leta began teaching home economics in Sandy Creek, NY where she met her husband. In 1951, they moved to Cambridge where she taught home economics at Cambridge Central School until 1980 when she retired. She also was the Advisor for Future Homemakers of America. Leta loved her students and continued to stay in touch with them throughout the years even until recent.
Leta was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church in Cambridge where for many years she was a faithful altar guild member and a St. Martha’s Guild member. She was a Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Leta enjoyed visiting with her many friends and former students. She loved baking, sewing, reading, gardening, watching sports on television especially Syracuse University and attending and supporting games at Cambridge Central School. Leta’s grandchildren were very precious to her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Frederick John Tully; 2 daughters, Elaine Tully (infant) & Joan Foster; a son-in-law, Carleton Foster.
Leta is survived by 2 children, Janet Tully-Kuzman of Guilderland and John Tully (Diana) of Cambridge; daughter-in-law, Carol Brownell of Cambridge, 7 grandchildren, Lydia Owen (Christopher), Hillary Allebach (Jarrett), Tammy Deekens (Carter), Victoria DeLuca (Christian), Katherine Kuzman, Jeffrey Tully (Nicole) and Jodi Dawn Sheedy (Jeffrey); 16 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May, 25, 2019 at St. Luke's Church, 4 St. Luke's Place, Cambridge. Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
