Cambridge-Joseph F. Lentz, Jr., 99, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Slate Valley Center in Granville with his family at his side.
He was born June 1, 1924 in Sand Lake, NY the son of the late Joseph F. Lentz and Orpha Cain Lentz.
Joe was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was honorable discharged in 1945.
Joe had worked for the Town of Jackson Highway Department and then he and his wife moved to Amenia, NY where he worked for the NYS Dept. of Transportation for 16 years retiring in 1980. In 1985, he and his wife Hazel permanently moved back to Cambridge.
Joe was a member of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church and the VFW in Greenwich. He loved NASCAR Racing, coin collecting, going to antique car shows and playing cards and pitch a the Shushan Grange. He was a collector of license plates and enjoyed riding in his convertible with his wife.
Joe is survived by his wife of 75 years, Hazel Loveland Lentz; his children, Cheryl (Rod) Bellows of Travelers Rest, SC, Mary Ellen (Al) Columbe of Westfield, MA, Joseph F. (Linda) Lentz, Jr. of Poughkeepsie and Diane (Alan) Cole of Brewerton, NY. His also survived by a brother, Fred Bovie of Cambridge, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be from 10-11 am on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A funeral service will begin at 11 am following the calling hour.
Interment with military honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
