John Middlebrook Obituary

Salem-John R. “Jack” Middlebrook, 88 of Salem, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side.

Born September 9, 1932 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late William “Toby” Middlebrook and Helen Lambertsen Middlebrook.

Jack graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955.  Jack worked with his father, Toby, at Middlebrook Music.  He also worked at Hilton Music before embarking on a career in law enforcement with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office and then at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office until he retired in the 1990’s.

Jack was an amazing woodworker and created many wonderful pieces that are in many homes today.  Jack could not remain retired for long and joined the staff at Greenwich School.  His greatest joy there was working with the students in the woodshop.

Jack is predeceased by his infant son, Tracy Middlebrook; his daughter, Lisa Middlebrook Garneau and his sister, Joyce Middlebrook.

Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Becker Middlebrook whom he married May 4, 1968; his children, Susan (John) Goodbred of Clifton Park, Kris (Mark) Eastman of Salem, Paige (Jim) Ford of Vinton, Iowa, Toby (Ambi) Middlebrook of Spanish Fork, Utah and Kenny (Sarah) Rice of Poultney, VT; 15 grandchildren, Nicholas & Jeffrey Korsak, Jennifer Connally, Joshua & John Goodbred II, Jeremy (Samantha) Eastman, Austin (Morgan) Eastman, Mackenzie & Griffin Ford, David, Delaney, Charles, Kolton & Kyler Middlebrook and Tyler Rice; 4 great grandchildren, Harper Connally, Luke & Jameson Eastman; a soon to be born great granddaughter, Karsyn Eastman and a lifelong friend, Gary O’Connor.
