Jane C. (Cramer) Phelps

Cambridge - Jane Edna Cramer Phelps, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Cambridge, NY, surrounded by family on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

She was born on October 3, 1953, at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge to the late Fremont Cramer and Charlotte Peck Cramer. Jane was also preceded in death by her brother, Timothy James Cramer, and her sister, Karen Louise Hall. She grew up in Shushan, NY, and graduated from Salem Washington Academy in 1971, followed by SUNY Geneseo in 1975.

Jane was a devoted wife and life partner to Jonathan Stokes Phelps, whom she married on July 16, 1977. She was a loving and supportive mother to her sons, Paul William Phelps and Charles Bowler Phelps. Though she had little interest in sports, she was a steadfast presence at their baseball games, track meets, and wrestling matches, and took great joy in their musical performances.

Known for her kindness, wit, and a warm smile that could light up a room, Jane pursued a career in nursing after raising her children. She completed her LPN training at F. Donald Myers Education Center in Saratoga Springs and went on to serve the communities of Hoosick Falls and Granville, NY, for more than 20 years with compassion and dedication.

Jane had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, cherishing memories of her journeys through the American Southwest, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Greece. At home, she found joy in knitting and tending her flower garden. Her family and friends will treasure the handmade wool garments and keepsakes she lovingly created for years to come.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
