James Hunt Obituary

Mechanicsburg, PA-James Hunt, 72-year-old from Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away suddenly on April 4, 2020 at his home. He was born in Cambridge, NY to the late Leroy and Murial (Barnhardt) Hunt. He was the youngest of 11 children and was raised by his older brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Doris Hunt from a very young age after the passing of his parents.

Jim received his education from Cambridge School until at which time he enlisted with the US Army from 1966-1969 where he served stateside at Fort Dix and West Point, and overseas during the Vietnam War in Bien Hoa and Saigon.  He later served in the National Guard from 1973-1982 in Hoosick Falls, NY. Jim was a true Patriot to his country and was proud to be a Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hoosick Falls, NY. Jim became disabled from complications derived from Agent Orange during his time Vietnam in 2011. Prior to that he worked many truck driving jobs and loved the adventures of long hauls across the country.

He was a dedicated and hardworking man. He was happiest spending time with family. He loved watching sports, his favorite teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn state. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a fan of Mark Martin. He enjoyed showing off his personal decked out trucks at local shows in Pennsylvania and was proud of the trophies and awards he received.

Jim is survived by his wife Linda (Monroe) Hunt of 50 years, four daughters, Melinda (Don) Bowen of Shaftsbury VT, Julie (David) Dague of Upper Strausburg PA, Stacy (Jason) Scott of St Augustine FL, and Amy (Steve) Surdam of White Creek NY. He leaves grandchildren, Megan Davidson (Tony Blunt), Ashley Bowen, Michaela Bowen, April Clyde, Tianna (Tyler) Reed, Sabrina Aiken, Nathaniel Aiken, Kayla Hunt (Chris Doyle), Stephen Surdam (Chloe Crawford). And great-grandchildren, Xander, Miyah, Mason, Elizabeth, Abigail, Hailey, Sawyer, and baby Reed due in October 2020. He is also survived by a brother Martin (Shirley) Hunt, sister Kathy (Eddy) Kaye, and sister in law Doris Hunt, along with sever nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Beside his parents, he is also preceded by his brothers, Earl “Nick” Hunt Sr, Joe Hunt, Leroy Hunt Jr, and Robert (Bob) Hunt, and his sisters, Irene Acevado, Ozella Chaplin, Marge Karrem, Helen (Nel) Bissonett. Also, by an infant grandson Alexx Guertin.

There will not be a service at this time, but there will be A Celebration of Life at a later date when it is safe.
