Gary M. Matte

Buskirk-It is with heavy hearts the Matte family and Val Orlop announce the passing of Gary M. Matte, 59, at Albany Medical Center on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 12:24 am after a long illness.

Gary was born December 9, 1961 in Cambridge the son of the late Reginald Matte, Sr. and Vivian Weber Matte.  Gary was a Steel Erector and Roofer most of his working life.  He worked for M&M Steel Erectors in York, PA for 30 years.

Gary was a true outdoorsman.  He loved fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends which were an important part of his life.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by a son, Andrew Matte and a granddaughter, Shyla Matte.

Gary is survived by “A small French family”; his partner of 23 years, Val Orlop; a son, Michael R. Matte of Iowa; siblings, Reggie (Belinda Green) Matte, Jr. of Hoosick, Regina (Bob) Trahan of Glen Allen, VA, Marcel (Franca) Matte of York, PA, Maurice (Missy Sawyer) Matte Hoosick Falls, Jeremy Matte of Scotland, Jolene McKenzie of Florida and Jena Case of Hoosick Falls.

Gary is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins.

Gary loved and was loved by many others including Nina, Rachel & Danny Prebble; Karen Pate, Zach Sherman, Dave Ellis, Keith Dooley; Diane, Alex, Lexie Olszewski and Tesa Beck……just to name a few.

A private service will be held for the family with interment at the Center White Creek Cemetery in Eagle Bridge. 

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date.
