Cambridge - Francis C. Moon, 94, a resident of Cambridge, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024. Francis died in the morning hours at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Francis was a Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather, and Friend.
Born on July 2, 1930, at his home in North Bennington, VT, he was the son of Alma Viola Moon, and raised by Harry Russell. In 1952, at the age of 22, Francis enlisted in the U.S. Army during the draft, leaving behind a wife and young daughter to go serve his country. Francis served with the Vermont Military District. Francis served during the Korean War as an Aircraft Mechanic where he had many responsibilities including repairing and inspecting Cessna L19 Aircraft. He was also in charge of up to 10 men. Francis was part of the 37th Field Artillery Battalion which was part of the 2nd Infantry Division also known as the "Indianhead" Division. Francis earned the title of Sergeant and received the Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal. Francis was discharged in 1954 and then served 8 years in the Army Reserves as part of the 204th Ordnance Supply Depot Company in Bennington, VT.
Francis worked many jobs but was most known for his role at Agway. He drove trucks and worked in the store at Agway in Eagle Bridge. He later became manager at the Hoosick Agway, where he eventually retired. After retirement, Francis was a well-known painter who never lacked for work.
Francis was an avid hunter and fisherman, providing much of the food his family ate. He loved spending time both in the woods and on the shore. He loved camping and gardening and was quite the outdoorsman. Francis also enjoyed woodworking, reading, and later in life, cooking.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Isabelle Moon; daughter, Valerie Bellrose; 5 Grandchildren, Bonnie (Tim) Hackett, Shari Peters, Jeremy (Carmel) Bellrose, Tiffany (Michael) Benson, Tenneale (Sean) Cossey; 11 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
Francis is Predeceased by his parents Alma Moon and Harry Russell; 3 Brothers, Harold Russell, Ralph Russell, and William Russell; 2 Sons-In-Law, John Peters and W. Howard Morrison; and 2 Daughters, Sharon Morrison, and Bonnie (Chubby) Moon.
