Salem - Evelyn (Richards) Braymer, 94 of Salem, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 at the Glens Falls Hospital. She was born in Cambridge on August 1, 1929 to the late Glenwood Richards and Ruth Evelyn (Wayman) Richards.
Evelyn graduated from Salem Washington Academy. Her plan was to join the Army to become a nurse, but instead met and soon married Kenneth Braymer and enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his passing. They started a dairy farm and ran it until 1985 when the cows were sold. The farm succeeded because they were a true partnership as all decisions were made together. In addition to the farm and raising 7 children, Evelyn was a cook for the Washington County Jail in Salem and was the main cook at Hebron Camp for over 25 years. In the late 1970’s, she earned her Business degree from Adirondack Community College. She worked at the Marine Midland Bank in Salem until she retired in 1996.
Evelyn was always an active volunteer. She served on the Board of Electors, was a lifelong member of the Salem Union Grange, an Elder and Sunday School teacher at the First United Presbyterian Church in Salem and later volunteered at the Salem Historic Courthouse. In addition, she volunteered to cook for the Salem Washington Academy FFA annual 4th of July BBQ for over 20 years.
Evelyn was a true role model in teaching her children strong work ethics and being kind and tolerant of all people. Her children affectionately nicknamed Evelyn “the Commander” as she was known to “bark out” orders and advice to her children, especially her youngest son.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her sister, Norma Richards, daughters Evelyn “Sue” Braymer and Irene (Ron) Johnson and son-in-law Peter Kuber.
She is survived by her children Kenneth (Diane) Braymer of Superior, MT, Kathleen (Peter) Kuber of Malta, NY, David (Jill) Braymer of Easton, NY, Jonathan (Mary) Braymer of Salem, NY and Timothy (Sandi) Braymer of Salem, NY.
Grandchildren include Jonathan (Jessica) Johnston of Princeton, NJ, Doug (Diana) Johnston of Casselberry, FL, Donavan Kuber of Watervliet, NY, Zach (Jenn Cary) Braymer of West Hebron, NY, Travis (Amy) Braymer of Superior, MT, David (Cassidy) Braymer of Greenwich, NY, Ross (Cassandra) Braymer of Greenwich, NY, Trevor (Kirsten) Braymer of Schaghticoke, NY, Katelyn (Matthew) Braymer-Hayes of Cambridge, NY, Daniel (Emilee) Braymer of Salem, NY, Ryan Braymer of Columbia, SC, Matthew Braymer of Salem, NY, Mackenzie Braymer of Salem, NY, and Cameron Braymer of Salem, NY. Evelyn was also survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Jack, Jase, Landon, Logan, Zeb, Dax, Amelia, Alexander, Aiden, Kaia, Gavin, Cora, Jonah and Hudson.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 13 West Broadway, Salem. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
