West Rupert, VT - Ellen G. Lourie quietly passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by family. She was an avid sewer and worked in local industries sewing clothing and lawn furniture, eventually retiring from Telescope Furniture in Granville, NY. Ellen made many blankets, quilts, and banners in her leisure time for friends and family. An accomplished vocalist, she sang in the choir of the Congregational Church of Rupert as well as many private events. She had the gift of arranging flowers, making many beautiful arrangements, as well as decorating cakes with flowers and frosting, for family, church and community events such as the Rupert Carnival.
Ellen was born at home in Salem, New York on October 18, 1929. She was educated in Salem and was the Salutatorian of her graduating class. On May 28, 1949 she married William J. Lourie, of West Rupert, at the Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Duke King, pastor of the Congregational Church of Rupert, VT, officiating. Their daughter, Wanda, was born a few years later. They lived in West Rupert, VT and were married for 53 years.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Vera (Ludd) Gould, her husband William J. Lourie, her sister Doris Ludd Dunham, and, her brother Harold Gould, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Putnam and son-in-law, Val Almosnino of West Rupert, VT, her grandson, Luther Putnam, of Middlesex, VT, her granddaughter, Jessie Almosnino of Manchester Center, VT, her great grandson Reese Ollivander of Hudson Falls, NY, her great granddaughter Briana Putnam and her great-great granddaughters Mary Putnam and Skylar Hopkins of Cambridge, NY, several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ellen’s memory or honor to the Congregational Church of Rupert in Rupert, VT 05768.
