Salem, NY – Elizabeth Jean Stocklas, beloved mother of four and proud Nana to eight grandchildren, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025 at the age of 64, following a brief battle with cancer. Surrounded by her loving family, she left behind a space in their lives that can never be filled.
Born in Troy, NY in June 13,1961, Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Dorothy (Sutton) Stocklas and one of ten siblings. She graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1980 and dedicated much of her life to working multiple jobs to support her family, always putting their needs first.
Elizabeth was a devoted mother to David (Rozanna), John (David), Lisa (Nicholas), and Amiela, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy. Despite a difficult childhood, she raised her children with unwavering love, teaching them to be kind, resilient, and compassionate. Her presence, encouragement, and warmth were felt in every stage of their lives.
One of Elizabeth’s greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow into their own unique selves. Her favorite memories were the holidays spent together—full of laughter, stories, and love—that she cherished deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Michael, Joseph, Andrew, Robert, Jackie, and Dodie Skaarup. She is survived by her siblings Irene Genovesi, Mary Lou Parks, and David Stocklas, all of whom will remember the love and light she brought into their lives.
In honor of Elizabeth’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. If you would like to make a donation in her memory, please consider giving to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204, or to your local ASPCA. Elizabeth adored her cats—sometimes even more than her kids, she would joke—and anyone who knew her knew how much they meant to her.
