Cambridge, NY - Dorothy A. “Dottie” Stevens, 89, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital.
Dottie was born on September 12, 1936, in Williamstown, Vermont, the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Gray) Field. She was a graduate of Mount Anthony High School in Bennington, Vermont. Throughout her life, Dottie was known for her steady faith, warm heart, and genuine care for others.
Dottie shared 30 loving years of marriage with her husband, Paul S. Stevens, whom she married on June 24, 1995. During Paul’s career as a truck driver, Dottie often traveled alongside him, embracing the adventure of the open road. Together they visited 46 states and four Canadian provinces, experiences she cherished and often spoke of fondly.
Over the years, Dottie devoted herself to work rooted in service and care. She was employed as a property caretaker for Roger Mill in Norfolk, Connecticut, and later served as assistant secretary at Celebration Church in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Her faith led her to establish her own ministry, Encouraging Hearts, through which she wrote personal letters offering spiritual encouragement to those in need. With compassion and dedication, Dottie wrote more than 1,000 letters, each one a reflection of her deep commitment to uplifting others.
In her quieter moments, Dottie found great joy in flowers and gardening. She especially loved tending to flower gardens, caring for houseplants, and growing strawberry plants—simple pleasures that brought her peace and happiness.
In addition to her husband Paul, Dottie is survived by her children: Mary George (the late Keith) of Richmond, Vermont; Mark Harrington of Bennington, Vermont; Dawn Benner of Rochester, New York; and Jonathan Connolly (Michele) of Asheville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Daniel Stevens of West Hoosick, New York; Jason Stevens of Concord, New Hampshire; Adam Stevens (Sarah) of Hoosick Falls, New York; and Heather Stevens of Indianapolis, Indiana. She leaves behind many grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Dottie’s life will be held at a later date at Jacob’s Well Fellowship in Cambridge, New York.
