David C. Watters

Rutland - David C. Watters, 77, a longtime resident of Rutland and Brandon, Vermont, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at Our House Residential Care Home in Rutland. He was the eldest son of the late Chester and Joyce Watters of Brandon, Vermont and Sun City Center, Florida.

David was born on August 6, 1947, in Middlebury, Vermont, and grew up in Brandon, where he graduated from Otter Valley Union High School in 1965. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served honorably from 1965 to 1969. His service included a tour aboard the USCGC Androscoggin in Vietnam from December 1967 to August 1968.

Following his military service, David returned to Vermont, where he worked in maintenance and property management for several years.  He also owned and operated the Neshobe Falls Book and Video store in Brandon in the early 1990’s, a place where community and conversation were always welcome.

In 1996, David moved to Maine, living first in Old Orchard Beach before settling in Windham on the shores of Highland Lake. He found great joy in retirement, especially in his love of music—spending countless hours in his home recording studio, composing and creating. A devoted fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, David rarely missed a game and followed both teams with passion and loyalty.

In 2021, David returned to Vermont and became a resident at Our House Residential Care Home in Rutland, where he remained until his passing.

David is survived by his son, Jason Watters and his wife Shy of Salem, NY; and three grandchildren, Hayley Watters and MacKenzie Watters of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Jayden Watters of Salem, NY. He also leaves behind his sisters, Linda Dolan of Claremont, NH, and Suzi Watters of Brandon, VT; his aunt, Judith Chase of Concord, NH; and his niece, Amanda Ewell, her husband John, and their family of Hutto, TX.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Donald Watters, and his sister-in-law Julie Brown, of Bristol, Vermont.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Forestdale Cemetery in Brandon, Vermont.

David’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Paula & Patsy, Lane & Lisa, Shannon, Kelsey, both Savannahs, Michelle, and the entire staff at Our House Residential Care Home for their compassionate care. Special thanks also to the Bayada Hospice nurses who provided David with attentive and loving support in his final months.
