David J. Maxwell

Colonie, NY - David J. Maxwell, 74, of Colonie, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, December 18, 2025, at his residence in Colonie.

Born on March 12, 1951, in Cambridge, New York, David was the son of Doris Perkins and the late Dayton T. Maxwell. He was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy and later earned an Associate Degree from Albany Business College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He also was a member of the New York State National Guard.  David devoted many years of his professional life to the field of information technology, working as a Computer Technician at Matthew Bender Publishing in Albany, followed by positions with Sysco Foods in Albany and at their Halfmoon location. He later worked for CDPHP in Albany, where he remained until his retirement in 2012.  David was a man of quiet talents and varied interests. He enjoyed oil painting and had a deep appreciation for antiques. He also found joy in attending fairs and traveling, pursuits that reflected his curiosity and appreciation for both creativity and tradition. Above all, David valued time spent antiquing with his brother Doug.

David was the beloved husband of 55 years to Sandra Matteson Maxwell, whom he married on August 1, 1970. He was a devoted father to his children, Renee (Johnny) Mclaughlin and Joshua (Maria) Maxwell, and a loving grandfather to Robert (Samantha), Ashton, and Anthony Zullo, and Sabrina and Samantha Maxwell. Great Granddaughter Evelyn Zullo.  He is also survived by his mother, Doris (LeRoy) Perkins; his siblings, Darlene (Bob) Seanor, Douglas (Doreen) Maxwell, Dorenda (Matt) Walters, Dayton (Amy) Maxwell, Jr., Deanne (Matthew) Noonan, and Matthew Perkins; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father Dayton, David was predeceased by his sister, Donna Spear.

Private services will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
