Rupert, VT - Charles E. Watrous, 90, of Rupert, VT, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation in Rutland, VT.
Charlie was born on August 25, 1934, in Rupert, VT, the son of Ruth and Charles Watrous. He was one of seven children and grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep love for his community. After graduating from Whitehall High School, Charlie dedicated his life to his work as a general contractor. He was self-employed for more than six decades, from 1957 until his retirement in 2019, earning the respect of his colleagues and clients for his craftsmanship and integrity.
Charlie was married to Ann Wilkins Watrous, who predeceased him on April 25, 2008. Charlie was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Granville, NY and he was a former member of The Eagles Club in Manchester, VT. In addition to his work and faith, Charlie had a passion for the outdoors, particularly hunting, a hobby that brought him both peace and joy throughout his life. Charlie was also a gun dealer for 30 years.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, his beloved daughter Brenda Hoerner, and two of his sisters, Carol Tifft and Edna Winot.
He is survived by his daughter, Rose (George) Rogers of Greenwich, NY; his son, Michael (Rose) Watrous of West Rupert, VT; and his son-in-law, Gary Hoerner of Clifton Park, NY. Charlie was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ivan Watrous of Hebron, NY; Rodney Watrous of Marlboro, NY; Richard Watrous of Hancock, NH; and Patricia Walcott of North Granville, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be at 1 pm Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Pastor William Steinmetz officiating.
Interment will follow at the Rupert Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
