Salem - Carlyle W. “Carl” Shaw, 87, of Salem passed away Monday June 3, 2024 at his residence. Born in Chichester, NH to Eleanor & Benjamin Shaw, he graduated from Concord High School in 1953 and the University of New Hampshire in 1957. After military service in San Antonio, he relocated to Granville and eventually settled in Salem. He managed Agway in Salem for thirty years, then worked independently for twenty years as a draftsman designing houses and barns for people in Washington, Saratoga & Warren counties.
Carl was active in the Salem community, serving on many committees including the Washington Academy Board of Education for over a decade and contributing design services to community projects such as the new Salem fire station. Carl was a 70 year member of the Grange and was an accomplished pianist, loved gardening, and enjoyed spending time at his lake house in Northwood, New Hampshire.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Sloan) Shaw; one daughter, Carol Liedes (Jyrki) of Andover MA; one grandson Matthew Liedes (Megan) of Boston, MA; a sister, Patricia Brown of Chichester, NH; three nieces, Beverly, Teresa, Mary Jane; one nephew, Ben and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his in-laws, Lettie and Edward Sloan, sister & brother-in-law Jeanne & Pasquale Girard, and brother-in-law, Joseph Brown.
A calling hour will be from 10 – 11 am Friday, June 7, 2024 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. A service will begin at 11 am with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem
Following the services, everyone is invited to join the family at the Salem Vol. Fire Dept., 53 South Main St., Salem for a reception.
