Hebron - Bruce A. Mattison, Sr., 89, of Hebron, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital Born on September 14, 1935, in Hebron, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Ruth (Safford) Mattison.
A lifelong resident of Hebron, Bruce was educated locally and remained deeply rooted in his community throughout his life. He was a man of many skills and strong work ethic. Bruce owned and operated his own dairy farm for many years, dedicating himself to the land and animals he cared for. Later, he worked for McCauley & Tucker in Salem, where he repaired heating systems. He eventually worked as a truck driver for Holland Trucking Co. in North Adams, Massachusetts, until his retirement.
Bruce was a quiet and steady presence, someone who enjoyed the simple things in life. He found joy in hunting and spending time outdoors. Known for his knack for “tinkering,” he could often be found fixing, adjusting, or lending a helping hand—especially to his neighbors, whom he watched over with kindness and care.
He is survived by his children: Bruce (Jean) Mattison, Jr. of Salem; Lynn (Ernie) Martelle of Wells, VT; and William J. (Tammy Lewis) Mattison of Hebron. He was a proud grandfather to Misty Lewis, Bruce Mattison, III, Lindsey Mattison, Phillip Martelle, Sabrina Mitchell, and Melinda Martelle, and a beloved great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren.
Bruce is also survived by his siblings: Clark (Pat) Mattison of Greenwich; Linda Ashcroft of South Carolina, widow of the late Richard Ashcroft; and Gail Hall of West Hebron. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Linda Baker Mattison, who passed away on December 4, 1986. He was also predeceased by his brothers Harold, Earl, John, Glenn, and Richard.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem, with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.
