Bernice King Obituary

Hebron - Bernice B. King, 90, of Hebron, joined her husband in heaven on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, 2026. Born on March 25, 1935, in Rupert, Vermont, Bernice was the daughter of the late George and Ida (Sherman) Truehart. She was raised and educated in Rupert, where she developed the strong work ethic and deep appreciation for family that would guide her throughout her life. Bernice was employed over the years by Gotham Tissue in Salem, New York, the Dorset Inn in the housekeeping department, and most notably by Royce Atwater Potatoes, where she worked from 1960 until the 1990s. She took pride in her work and was respected for her dedication and reliability. No matter where she was employed, she carried herself with quiet determination and a willingness to lend a helping hand.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in West Rupert, Vermont. Her faith was an important part of her life and reflected in the kindness and generosity she extended to others.

Bernice found great joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, hunting, canning and freezing the harvest, and in her younger years, square dancing. She cherished time spent

outdoors and valued the satisfaction that came from providing for her family. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome.

Above all, Bernice was devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Constance and Alan Forand of Hebron; her grandchildren, Cheryl (Matt) Porter and Jason

(Crystal) Getty; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob and John Getty, Paisley, Brinley, and Nolan Porter, and Wyatt and Easton Paul. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including

special nephews LaVerne “Dude” Truehart, Fred Truehart, and Terry Sutliff.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Gilbert H. King, who passed away on October 12, 2023. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth, Pete, Emma, Ida, Eli, Calla, Waneta, Beaulah, George, LaVerne, Ernest, Eva, and one sibling who died at birth.

Bernice will be remembered for her steady presence, her strong hands, her generous heart, and her unwavering love for her family. Her life was one of devotion, hard work, and quiet strength.

She leaves behind a legacy of resilience and faith that will continue to guide those who knew and loved her.
Private services will be held at the family’s request at a later date at Rupert Cemetery.
