Beatrice Pierce Obituary

Cambridge – Beatrice L. Pierce, 97, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls comforted by her family.

Bea was born February 25, 1927 in Union Springs, NY the daughter of the late Warren and Mildred (Counsell) Van Liew.

Bea attended a one room schoolhouse and then attended Union Springs Central School graduating in 1944.  Bea continued her education at the Auburn Memorial Hospital where she received her RN degree.

Bea worked at the Auburn Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home.  In 1959, she and her family moved to Cambridge where she worked at the Owl Kill Farm in Eagle Bridge for 30 years until she retired.

Bea was a 57-year member of the former Embury United Methodist Church in Cambridge; past president of the United Methodist Women; a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #634 where she served as past president and chaplain; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and when she had free time, Bea enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her parents, Bea was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, David L. Pierce who passed away in 2002; a son, David J. Pierce; a granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Pierce; a daughter-in-law, Martha “Poodie” Pierce; a brother, Kenneth Van Liew.

Bea is survived by her two sons, Richard A. (fiancé Roxanne) Pierce and Gary (Mary Ann) Pierce, of Hoosick Falls; a daughter-in-law, Susan Pierce of Moberly, MO; a sister-in-law, Jan Van Liew of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Richard A. (Dawn) Pierce, Don Pierce, Steve Pierce, Holly (Ben) Bailey, Ethan M. Roy, Theresa (Mike) Taft, Kevin (Patty) Hyde, Ed (Julie) Hyde, Karen (John) Gatus and PJ (Shelby) Hyde; great grandchildren, Kristen (Mike), Morgan, Richard A. III, Leah, Evie, Aisling, Brandon, Devin, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Maria, Christopher, Brooklyn, Sophia, Taylor and Matt; great great grandchildren, Chloe, Sullivan, Cian and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 am on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Cambridge United Methodist Church, 41 East Main St., Cambridge with Rev. Carol Finke officiating.

A celebration of Bea’s life will continue at the Captain Maxson Post American Legion, 2106 State Route 22, Cambridge following the service.
