Alison Cary Obituary

SALEM– Alison Lane Cary, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at her home in Salem, NY following a medical event. She was born in Rutland, Vermont on March 13, 1960, to Richard and Rosella Lane. She graduated from Salem Central School in 1978. She went on to spend her career working at Salem Central School both as a bus driver and in the cafeteria where she enjoyed seeing all of the students' smiling faces as they came through the lunch line. Alison was always a strong advocate for bringing new, healthy and delicious recipes into the school as she loved to cook. She also loved to bake, especially at Christmas. She made a variety of cookies, pies and fruit bread all from scratch and enjoyed every second of it.  Alison was happy when she was in nature. She enjoyed camping with friends, and was passionate about birds. She had numerous bird houses around the property and enjoyed bird watching. She always had a pair of binoculars nearby. She LOVED animals. Alison believed every animal needed an advocate and deserved to be in a loving home. Alison championed local schools to offer teachings that would benefit both students and pets by teaching children how to treat and care for their pets. Over the years, she opened her home to horses, goats, pigs, fish, a hamster or two and of course her beloved dogs and cats. Alison was a true free spirit and a devoted mother who would do anything for anyone especially her children and grandchildren. Time with her family and friends making memories was most precious to her.

Alison was predeceased by her father, Richard Lane.

Alison is survived by her mother, Rosella Lane; her husband, Jeff Cary; children Danielle Cary of Salem, NY and Jeffrey Cary, Jr. (Katie) of Rutland, VT; siblings Cynthia Filiatrault (Luc) of Montreal, Quebec, Laura Lane of Salem, NY and Dick Lane (Christine) of Salem, NY; beloved grandchildren, Collins Cary and Crew Cary and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
