Obituary

WEST HEBRON--William Robert Nave, Jr., 55, of West Hebron, passed away peacefully from complications of prostate cancer on Tuesday morning, August 30, 2016, at his residence with his family by his side.

Born May 2, 1961 in Owensboro, KY, he was the son of Joan Harrison Nave of Owensboro, KY and the late Rev. William Robert Nave, Sr.

Bill graduated in 1979 from Apollo High School in Owensboro. He attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY, and received his BFA with honors in dramatic writing from New York University.

A resident of New York City for 35 years, Bill was playwright-in-residence from 1989 to 1999 at the 29th Street Repertory Theater, for which he wrote a dozen plays, including the published and award-winning Visiting Oliver and Bible Burlesque with Edward Norton. His Necktie Breakfast moved off-Broadway to the Harold Clurman Theatre. Prior to moving to West Hebron full-time in November 2015, he was parish administrator at Church of the Transfiguration (The Little Church Around the Corner) in New York City.

Bill attended Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem. In addition to writing, he enjoyed corresponding with friends around the world, cooking, gardening, reading, and swimming.

Bill is survived by his husband, Jared Benchoff Stamm, son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles F. Stamm of Schenectady, NY. He is also survived by his mother Joan Harrison Nave; his sisters, Suzann Nave of Owensboro, KY and Sandra (Jack) Mercer of Orlando, FL; nieces Tabitha Mercer Pattishall of St. Augustine, FL, and Rebecca Mercer of New York City; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 4 to 6 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, 2 East 90th St., New York City, NY. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro, KY on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
