Cambridge - Thomas F. Armet, 85, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Born on July 23, 1940, in Jamaica, New York, Tom was the son of the late John and Marguerite (Kelly) Armet.
Tom was a graduate of Levittown Memorial High School and continued his education at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he earned both an Associate's Degree and a Bachelor's Degree. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during the Vietnam Era.
Following his military service, Tom began a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department. He served for 20½ years, retiring in 1984 with the rank of Sergeant. In 1985, Tom and his family made their home in Cambridge, where he embarked on a second career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service. For the next 25 years, he faithfully served the residents of Cambridge and surrounding communities, becoming a familiar and friendly face throughout the area.
Alongside his wife, Patricia, Tom had an Antique Shop at his home sharing their love of antiques with countless customers and friends. Dedicated to public service throughout his life, Tom also served two terms as Cambridge Town Justice.
Tom was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also remained a member of the Sergeants Benevolent Association of New York City.
Tom found great joy in antiquing, fishing with his family, and spending time outdoors. He especially cherished his daily walks through the Village of Cambridge, where he enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends along the way. He loved the beauty of the countryside and appreciated the simple pleasures of the community he called home.
On September 1, 1962, Tom married Patricia Stewart. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, raising a loving family and creating a lifetime of treasured memories.
In addition to his beloved wife, Patricia, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas F. (Andrea) Armet of Floral Park, Dennis J. Armet of Cambridge, Eileen Armet of Cambridge, Patrick Armet of Oswego, Helen Armet of Glens Falls, Theresa Green of Lansingburgh, and Susan Armet of Cambridge; his brother, John "Jack" (Ann) Armet of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Sheila and Bridgette Armet, John and Jessica Armet, Maddie, Tori and Emma Armet, Danielle Goldstein, Joshua Coon, Jessica Winters, Quintan Armet Green, Katerina Armet Green, Miranda Seacord, and Zayn Seacord; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his grandson, Gregory Goldstein, and his sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Armet.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Coila Church, 93 State Route 372, Cambridge. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church.
Memorial contributions in Tom's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
