Bushnell, FL-Stephen John Lathrop (Steve), 63, of Bushnell, FL passed away peacefully January 18, 2017 in his home due to illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve, born in Cambridge, NY February 16, 1953, was raised in Shushan, NY where his lifelong love for agriculture began on the Lathrop family farm. He attended Salem Central School in Salem, NY earning a New York State Welding Certification, graduating in 1972. For almost thirty years, Steve operated and managed the Lathrop farm.  In 1999, Steve and his wife Gina relocated to Bushnell, FL, where he became Assistant Supervisor for the Lake County Department of Public Works, retiring in September 2013.

Grilling, riding his motorcycle, RV traveling, boating, and fishing were all activities Steve loved and generously enjoyed sharing with his family and friends, creating cherished memories for all.  In addition, Steve had a passion for gardening and working with the earth that was second only to his love for his family, friends, and animals.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gina. Sons, Jason Lathrop and wife Maria of Shushan, NY, Wayne (Kelly Barron) Lathrop of Fort Ann, NY, and daughter, Jessica Lathrop of Bushnell, FL. Grandchildren, Colt, Tyler, Aidan, Bryce, and Hunter Lathrop. Siblings, Skip (Jose Mosher) Lathrop  of Hebron, NY, Bob Lathrop and wife Darlene of Tarpon Springs, FL, Diane Lathrop and husband Jeff Darrah of Fort Collins, CO, Lois Pedrick and husband Bob of Mount Holly, NJ, Jeff Snow and wife Kathy of Shushan, NY, and Greg Snow of Webster, FL. Steve was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Helen Lathrop.

Calling hours will be from 12-2 pm on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.  A service will begin at the conclusion of the calling hours with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Steve can be made to the Shushan Covered Bridge Foundation or your local Hospice organization.
