Cambridge-Sister Rachel Labish, born Margaret Toth, baptized Elizabeth, and daughter of Hungarian immigrants John and Mary (Huzsar), 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 at Wesley Health Care in Saratoga Springs.
She was a Nun of New Skete for the last 28 years and before that a homemaker, saleswoman, farmer and gardener. Her final years were spent at the Wesley Home in Saratoga, where she pursued friendships with the other residents and the staff and continued her ministry by phone with family, friends, and members and parishioners of New Skete.
The New Skete Community and the Labish family want to thank the staff and administration at Wesley Health Care for the loving attention and care given to Sr Rachel these past 9 years.
In addition to her parents, Sr. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Paul; her daughter Barbara Mauser; and her grandson Robert Mauser.
She leaves behind sons Father Marc Labish, Isaac (Cindy) Labish, David (Ann) Labish, Chris (Cheryl) Labish; daughters Margaret (Steve) Lenart, Veronica Labish, Susan Labish; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Wake will be held 6:00 pm Monday March 14; Funeral and burial are 10:30 am Tuesday March 15 at Monks of New Skete, 250 New Skete Lane, Cambridge, NY. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Nuns of New Skete, 343 Ash Grove Rd., Cambridge, NY.
