Rupert, VT-Roland C. Farrar, 88, of Rupert, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Orchard Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Granville.
Roland was born April 6, 1929 in Cambridge the son of the late Charles and Jennie (Mullen) Farrar. He was educated in Rupert and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Roland worked on the farm at the Merck Foundation in Rupert for many years until he retired.
He was an avid turkey and deer hunter. Roland loved to tell jokes and stories and he and his wife Emma enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Ireland and Scotland. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elk's Lodge, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Vermont 2551 in Manchester, VT and the North Country Western Entertainment Club.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Vernon Potter; a brother, Stanley Farrar.
Roland is survived by his wife of 48 years, Emma Dunbar Farrar whom he married March 14, 1969; his children, Vivian (Robert) Bordeaux of Fort Edward, Linda (Mark) Orleman of Corinth and Deborah (Charles) Brothers of Port St. Lucie, FL. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 12 to 1 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. A funeral service will begin at 1 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at the Rupert Cemetery.
