Obituary

Salem-Roberta J. Moore, 89, of Salem, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at The Orchard Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Granville.

Born March 3, 1927 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Olive McMurray Jones.

Bert was a 1944 graduate of Salem Washington Academy and attended Albany Business College.

Bert was a teller at the Salem National Bank and also worked for the law offices of Briggs, Wilson & Tomasi in Salem and retired from the Jerome Wright Insurance Co. in Salem where she worked as a secretary for many years before retiring.

Bert volunteered with the Boy Scouts in Salem for many years.  She was a member of the Friends of the Bancroft Public Library in Salem and a member of the Salem Area Women's Club.  She was also a member of the Washington County Republican Women's Club.

Bert enjoyed bowling and attended many sports events and along with her husband, enjoyed riding their motorcycle, camping and traveling.  She was a lifelong member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem where she taught Sunday School. Bert was also a Deacon and a member of the Church Session.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Robert J. Moore who passed away June 10, 1992; a brother, William O. Jones, Jr., and a sister, Eleanor Hemstead.

Bert is survived by her children, Rebecca Smith of Lake George, Regina (Dan) Eastman of Salem and Rodney Moore of Jacksonville, FL.  Bert is also survived by her grandchildren, J. Storm (Larissa) Smith, Marley (Chris) Picard, Briar Eastman, Kyle Eastman & Colton Eastman; 2 great grandchildren, Lillian and Sophia Picard.

Calling hours will be on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.  A funeral service will begin at the conclusion of the calling hours at 1:00 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating.

Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Salem

Memorial contributions in memory of Bert may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY  12865 or the activities fund at The Orchard Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre, 10421 State Route 40, Granville, NY  12832.

Bert's family thanks the staff at The Orchard for the care and compassion given to Bert and her family during her stay.
