Salem, NY – Robert B. "Bob" Russell, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at his residence.
Born January 28, 1939 in Mt. Kisco, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Esther (Hamilton) Russell. Bob was a member of the last graduating class of Bedford Hills High School in Bedford Hills, NY. He continued his education at Cobleskill Ag & Tech College in Cobleskill, NY, receiving his Associate Degree in 1959.
Bob dedicated much of his working career to Agway, where he served as a manager at several locations throughout New York State for 25 years. He later continued in the same capacity in Indiana and Arkansas. Following his years with Agway, Bob managed condominiums in Daytona Beach, FL until his retirement in 2017, when he and Kay returned to New York State.
Faith and service were important parts of Bob's life. He was an active member of the Hebron United Presbyterian Church and hosted weekly prayer meetings at his home with the Men's Prayer Group. No matter where life brought him and his wife, Bob remained devoted to his church community. He was also a longtime supporter of Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with the Fire Department and Rescue Squad in East Moriches, NY.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Kay Barkley Russell, whom he married on June 12, 1960; his daughter, Marjorie Russell (Richard Capron) of St. George, UT; his son, Robert B. Russell, Jr. (Sandy) of La Habra, CA; his brothers, David Russell of Manchester, VT and Donald Russell (Christina) of St. David, ME; his grandchildren, Jennifer Floyd (David) of Port Richey, FL, Matthew Russell (Cassidy) and their son, Deacon, of Brea, CA and Kristopher Russell (Jazmin) of Mission Viejo, CA; his nephew, Scott Russell (Barbara) of Manchester, VT; along with many much loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by two sisters, Judith Deickler and Nancy Doty.
A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Hebron United Presbyterian Church, 3153 County Route 30, Salem, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. immediately following the calling hour. A reception in the church hall will follow the service.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be made to the Hebron United Presbyterian Church, 3153 County Route 30, Salem, NY 12865 or to The Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
Bob's family deeply appreciated the loving care provided to him at his home by Community Hospice during the last 15 months.
