Obituary

Hebron, NY – Robert L. Gette, Jr., 85, of Hebron, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his residence with his family by his side.

Born December 23, 1940, in Norwalk, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Robert L. Gette, Sr. and Barbara (Smith) Gette.

Known to family and friends as Bob, he graduated from Kent Boys School in Kent, Connecticut, and continued his education at Columbia University and the University of Virginia. Throughout his career, Bob combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his lifelong passion for motorcycles. He owned Dirtcycles in Milford, New Hampshire, and later became co-owner, alongside his brother, of Gette Ford in Millbrook, New York. During that time, he also proudly served for many years as the Town Justice in Millbrook. He later worked for Dutchess Recreational Vehicles in Poughkeepsie and for Moroney's Cycle in New Windsor until his retirement in 1999.

Bob was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association and had a lifelong love of motorcycles, especially dirt track racing. In his spare time, he enjoyed cutting firewood, working outdoors, completing crossword puzzles, reading, and was always eager to learn something new. He had a great love of music, especially loud music! He also found great companionship in his beloved dogs, Coal and Tonto, and his cats, Girl Kitty and Boy Kitty.

Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, Theresa Shannon Gette; his daughters, Rebecca (Bernard) Becnel of Covington, Georgia, and Alaina (Peter Jacob) Petren of Clinton Corners, New York; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Liddy of Charlotte, North Carolina; his first wife, Linda Christianson Gette of Fancy Gap, Virginia; his grandsons, Owen Gette of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jackson (Callie) Bigham and Grady Bigham, both of Covington, Georgia, and Johnny Jacob of Clinton Corners, New York.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his son, Robert C. Gette, in 2010, and his brother, Carter Gette, in 2003.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
