Salem, NY – Norma Montgomery Tourge, 101, of Salem, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her residence.

Born April 14, 1925, in Cambridge, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Russell) Montgomery. Norma was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy.

Norma began her working career at the C.A. Baltz Shirt Factory and continued there after it became the pajama factory. She later became a well-known and beloved babysitter, caring for generations of children in the Salem area. She took great pride in the families she cared for and was fondly remembered by many.

Norma enjoyed shopping, visiting the racino and casinos, and traveling, especially taking cruises in earlier years. She was a member of the Francis J. Clark American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and, together with her husband, Dick, enjoyed square dancing for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen A. Tourge of Salem; her brother-in-law, Donald Ketchum of Elma, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard "Dick" Tourge; her daughter, Marcia Simmons Johnson; her brothers, Robert Montgomery and Howard Montgomery; and her sister, Eleanor Ketchum.

A calling hour will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Pastor Mike Crandall officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem, NY.
