Shushan, NY – Neil R. Adams, 92, of Shushan, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born February 27, 1934 in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Wilson) Adams and stepson of the late Florence (Burdick) Adams.
Neil was one of the lucky ones—he found what he loved to do early in life—farming—and continued until he couldn’t anymore. He lived on a beautiful farm and was so proud of how the farm looked.
Neil was a friend to everyone and always had a positive outlook toward life. He was always one of the first to greet and welcome people new to the area and at the church. Neil loved hunting, visiting with friends and family, and sitting on his porch watching the cows and waving to everyone who went by, hoping they would stop by to chat.
One of Neil’s favorite pastimes was going to Jean’s Place in Hoosick on Mondays and the Auction Barn on Thursdays and Saturdays. We’d like to mention Amy and Sue at Jean’s Place for the excellent service and conversation, as well as all the other patrons there. The Auction Barn and their wait staff, especially Lex, Terrie, Lynda and Jessica, provided such excellent service and friendship. Neil had many friends at both diners, too many to count.
Neil was a member of many organizations, including the Green Mountain Chapter of the Antique Car Club. He was a member of the Shushan United Presbyterian Church and was an Elder for over 30 years. Neil was the youngest person ever to be elected to the Board of Elders. He was also a member of the Washington County Co-Op Insurance Board, the Evergreen Cemetery Board and the Washington County Board of Assessors.
In addition to his parents and stepmother, Neil was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Adams; a son, Raymond Adams; and a brother, Roy Adams.
Neil is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sandy Adams of Shushan; his grandchildren, Sarah (Derick) Lourie of Rupert, VT, Laura Adams, Cassandra (George) Conety and David Adams, all of Shushan. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Trent and Drew Lourie, Raegan and Hudson Johnson, Charlotte and Bo Conety, and many nieces and nephews, especially Pat and Peggy, and many friends, especially his phone friends, John H. and John I. A special thanks to Carol, his best friend for the past 20 years.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 4 p.m. at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church, 730 County Route 64, Shushan, with Rev. Carol Finke officiating. A private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
