Margaret (Meg) Miller Ashworth

Cambridge, NY - Margaret (Meg) Miller Ashworth of Saratoga Springs, NY, formerly Cambridge, NY, passed away at the Home of the Good Shepard, July 20, 2026, at 101 years old. She was born in Ossining, NY, on January 29, 1925, to George Miller and Gladys Baker Miller of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She was their only child and grew up surrounded by her many relatives.

She graduated from Croton-Harmon High School in 1943 and entered Fairfax Hall, at that time a finishing school in Waynesboro, VA. After school, she worked at a bank in Croton-on-Hudson. She and Everett M. Ashworth of Harmon, NY, wed on August 9, 1947, and they were married for 65 years.

They first lived in Washington, NJ, where Everrett was a mechanical engineer for Ingersoll-Rand. In 1950, they moved to Cambridge, NY, where Mr. Ashworth was employed at Beadle's GLF (later Agway), owned by Everett’s aunt Mary, which Meg and Everett later purchased. They worked long hours together building their house on Maple Ave., where Meg lived until 2015. A red barn for the girls’ horses was later added. The family also built an A-frame camp on Goose Egg Mountain in Ash Grove, NY. It was used for family gatherings, including some memorable clam steams, and for deer hunting.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashworth were founding members of the group that purchased the former Jerome B. Rice and Co. seed complex in Cambridge in the 1980’s, returning it to productive use in the community as VARAK Park.

Meg lived a good, long life and had many interests. She was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress, helping her daughters with curtains and other home décor items, knitter, making beautiful Icelandic sweaters and keeping the grandchildren in sweaters as they grew, cook, baker, Brownie leader and painter. She also enjoyed bowling and ceramics when she was raising her children. After Everett’s retirement, they frequently took fishing trips on their boat, cut firewood, grew raspberries, and visited family. She loved the outdoors and spent hours on a double glider swing in her backyard visiting with family and neighbors. Meg was known for her gingersnaps, “asbestos hands,” and her liberal dessert policy for her grandchildren who were “good eaters.”

Meg had a good sense of humor, liked a good joke and was always up for an adventure. She frequently went to Florida to visit her daughter, Beth, and her family and enjoyed cruises with them. Meg fulfilled a lifelong dream of going to Hawaii with her daughter, Joan, and grandson, Trevor, twice. She loved warm weather, sunshine, tanning, the beauty of winter, gardenias, black-eyed Susans, irises, coffee ice cream, maple leaf candy and cookies, York Peppermint Patties, getting a manicure, going out to breakfast, jewelry, clothes, pocketbooks, The Weather Channel, Jeopardy, “Wheel,” Word Searches, and above all else her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Everett, and her two sons, (E.) Bruce and (George) Jeffrey. She is survived by her two daughters, Joan Dwyer (Terry) of Malta, NY, and Beth Wenzel (Paul) of Orlando, FL, and Jeff’s wife, Bonnie, of Hanover, NH; her grandchildren, Maryann (Mark) and Elizabeth (Ryan) Ashworth, Amianne (Kevin), Trevor (Ashley), Hayley (Frederich), and Gavin (Stephen) Ashworth, Taylor (Sarah) and Thomas Dwyer, Kyle (Lauren), Tyler, and Caroline Wenzel; and four great-grandchildren.
