Lynn E.
Ackershoek
Dec 11, 1956 — Jan 6, 2026
West Hebron, NY - Lynn E. Ackershoek, 69, of West Hebron, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026, at her residence.
Born on December 11, 1956, in Paterson, New Jersey, Lynn was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Bannworth) Ackershoek. She was raised in Wayne, NJ, where she graduated from Wayne Hills High School. Lynn continued her education at Rutgers University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology—an area of study that reflected her lifelong compassion for and interest in the well-being of others.
Lynn devoted much of her professional life to serving the community. She began her career at Community Action, in Glens Falls in 1987 as a bookkeeper. Through dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the organization's mission, she steadily advanced to Executive Director, a position she held for over three decades. Lynn served in that role with distinction, guided by a deep sense of responsibility and a genuine desire to help those in need. Her leadership and kindness left a lasting impact on colleagues and the many individuals and families she served.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lynn was a person of quiet joys and generous spirit. She had a deep love for animals, found peace in reading and gardening, and treasured time spent by the ocean—especially during visits to Ocean Grove, New Jersey. She was always mindful of others and consistently offered help, encouragement, and understanding to anyone who needed it.
Above all else, Lynn was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Brian B. Flanagan, whom she married on February 11, 1991. She was a proud and devoted mother to her sons, Brian Flanagan of Gansevoort, NY, and Ian Flanagan of Glens Falls, NY. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Hook (Greg) of Cincinnati, OH, and her brother, Edward Ackershoek (Pat) of Boonton, NJ. Lynn was an aunt to her nieces and nephew, Rachel Hook, Sara Hook Dailey, Brittany Ackershoek, and Matt Ackershoek.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, NY.
