Salem, NY - Laurene Louise "Laurie" York, 78, of Salem, NY, passed away Saturday, January 27, 204 at her residence.

She was born April 25, 1945 in Greenfield, MA the daughter of the late Arthur and Louise (Gaudry) York.

Laurie graduated from Greenfield High School and received an Associate Degree in fine arts from Greenfield Community College in 1967.

Laurie and her family owned and operated Mohawk Trading Post in Shelburne, MA and she continued operating the business for many years until retiring.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Shelburne and sang alto in the choir for many years.  Laurie was a member of the Shelburne Grange since 1991 and was the Chaplain and collected a notebook of special prayers for many years until she moved to New York. She was a member of the Shelburne Falls Women's Club and also the Catamount Hill Association which she was a descendent of the Cary family who lived on Catamount Hill in Colrain and served on its Board.

She is survived by a cousin in California and her companion, Thomas A. Risse of Salem; a close friend, Cheryl Drake of Connecticut.

Tom and his daughter Tonia are very appreciative of Diantha Wholey for assisting the family during this time.

A service will be held at a later date at the East Cemetery in Rowe, MA.
